In the last few years Scottish poetry has received a much-needed shot in the arm from an explosion in pamphlet-publishing (see www.scottish-pamphlet-poetry.com) and James Robertson's Kettillonia has played a leading role in these developments: in the six years since the imprint was established, Kettillonia is now publishing its 24th title, and continuing to live by its original mission, to see "original, adventurous, neglected and rare writing into print". Shetland's own North Idea imprint was directly inspired by James and Kettillonia.
Malachy Tallack lives in Fair Isle. His writing has appeared extensively in local publications. In 2005 he won the Shetland Writing Prize for his short A Measure of Love. Malachy has released two albums of his own songs, and is a well-established singer-song writer and performer. His latest publication is called In Prague.
Donald S. Murray comes from the Isle of Lewis, but now lives and teaches in Shetland. Special Deliverance, his first collection of short stories, was shortlisted for the Saltire Society First Books Award. His pamphlet Between Minch and Muckle Flugga is published by Kettillonia.
James Robertson is a poet, novelist and short story writer. He set up
and runs the pamphlet-publishing imprint Kettillonia,
and is a co-founder of, and writer and editor for Itchy Coo, which
produces books in Scots for children and young people. In 2004 he served as the
Scottish Parliament's first writer-in-residence. He lives in Angus.
