Books and Beans was the venue for an evening of high quality poetry skilfully delivered by Jonathan Wonham, Michelle Noteboom, Joe Ross and Rufo Quintavalle.

Michelle kicked off with her clever, sharp observations — her mastery of wordplay sparkling through verse. She was followed by Joe Ross, whose poetry punched with every word, embracing the deepest subjects with an urgent pace and edgy vibrancy.

Rufo, in contrast, provided a more reflective tone, and his quirky take on the world won many laughs, particularly in his use of monosyllabic words.

Finally Jonathan presented a set of poems focussing on experiences offshore and we were treated to some moving and powerful accounts of isolation from family life.

All four poets have been published in Upstairs at Duroc.
